E tū ana Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tamarongo ki Ōpunake, Taranaki.

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tamarongo derives its name from Tamarongo hapū of the Taranaki Tribe. We are a full-immersion state funded Kura, initially established as a private school in 1991, to ensure tamariki graduating from Te Kohanga Reo o Te Namu could continue their education as Māori, in a Māori environment, taught by Māori according to kaupapa Māori. In July 1995 Tamarongo was accredited a full state and funded Kura catering for years 1 – 8 students. Tamarongo was the first accredited Kura Kaupapa Māori in the Aotea District.

A feature of the Kura requires that all whānau have the right to participate in the decision making process including governance. Whilst the Kura maintains its statutory responsibility through the Board of Trustees, whānau have equal status at the monthly whānau and Board meetings.
